WCU Chancellor responds to gas shortage
9/24/2008 - John BardoWestern Carolina University Chancellor John Bardo announced today that classes and offices are open for business as usual, in spite of the severe gas shortage in the western part of the state.

“Since Western Carolina University is a residential university with more than 3,500 students in residence halls, the university does not, as a matter of general practice, close its operations or cancel classes due to exceptional or unusual circumstances. Thus, the university is making every effort to maintain business as usual,” Bardo said.

At the same time, he encouraged faculty to accommodate students who are experiencing difficulties getting to class because of the scarcity of fuel and encouraged staff supervisors to explore the possibility of flexible work schedules for their employees.

In sending his statement to the campus in Cullowhee, Bardo said, “I understand the frustrations and concerns caused by the current uncertainty and know that we will get through this temporary situation by working together and supporting one another.”
