WCU is a University of North Carolina Campus
Alumni Tower
On Saturday, October 28, 1989, the Alumni Association dedicated the Alumni Tower as part of WCU's centennial-year homecoming events. To this day, the bells continue to ring out to faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of WCU.
The tower, standing 66 feet high, is located on the lawn of the A. K. Hinds University Center. It was made possible by a $350,000 alumni fund-raising effort and was built by F.N. Thompson Construction Company of Charlotte.
Over the years the tower has become the campus gathering place. A legacy of the past, it will continue as a symbol of the association's commitment to excellence in education.
In 1989, when the tower was dedicated, George Hood was President, Bill Dodgen was President-Elect, Max Hopper was Chairman of the Alumni Tower Fundraising Committee and Immediate Past President, and Jim Manring was director of the Office of Alumni Affairs.
