Customizing Liberal Studies or Degree Programs
Because of their academic high achievement, Honors students enjoy the benefits of curriculum flexibility. Some students customize their major by creating a Special Studies degree.
Though all students complete the Liberal Studies Program to graduate, Honors students have the option of modifying the program by taking higher-level courses instead of the lower-level Liberal Studies course. For example, an Honors student might elect to take English 308 ("Fiction Writing") in place of English 101 ("First-Year Composition"). If the Honors student earns a B- grade or above in the higher-level course, the student earns Honors credit for the class.
To take advantage of this option, Honors students must get approval by completing the Liberal Studies Course Replacement Form for Honors Students (PDF).
