Accounting profession leader Barry Melancon will speak at the Western Carolina University Graduate Center in Asheville during “Students’ Night” on Monday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m.
The event is sponsored by WCU and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Melancon (pictured) is chief executive officer and president of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a recent appointee to the U.S. Department of Treasury advisory panel on the future of the accounting profession.
He will talk with students about preparing for success as a certified public accountant and will discuss the issues influencing the profession, including regulation, market forces, the CPA examination, extensible business reporting language (XBRL) and international trends.
The talk will be followed by a reception at 5 p.m. where students can meet Melancon, with a continuing professional education session for the business community at 6 p.m. In the professional session, Melancon will provide a CPA profession update through discussion of major issues, including human capital, firm trends, international trends, regulation and XBRL. The WCU Graduate Center is in Karpen Hall, located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Asheville. The Feb. 11 event, located in the Laurel Forum of Karpen Hall, is free to students.
