Education:

Mr. Wlosok received his classical education in piano performance and composition at the Conservatory of Music in Ostrava and Janacek Academy of Music in Bmo, and he obtained his bachelor and master degrees in jazz studies at the University of North Texas (UNT), in Denton.

Biography:

Mr. Pavel Wlosok is a Czech pianist, composer, arranger, and educator. While working in Ujezd (Czech Republic), Pavel had extensive experience in directing musical theatre productions and was awarded several prizes for performing in national-level competitions. In addition, he founded and, for six months, managed the jazz club at the well-known Sonata restaurant. In 1993 Pavel co-founded the "Bezmocna Hrstka," a group of Czech composers who organize concerts of young musicians in Central Europe. Their first CD was released in 2002.

In August 2000 he became director in jazz studies at Truman State University, in Kirksville, Missouri and since August 2002 he has been an assistant professor of jazz, commercial and electronic music at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

During his time at the University of North Texas (UNT), he served as pianist-arranger for the One O'clock Lab Band (four CDs, the latest featuring Kenny Wheeler), as solo pianist for the UNT Wind Symphony (CD Luminaries), and toured Europe and North America.

In 2001 Czech National TV Network filmed a documentary interview with Pavel about his contemporary and jazz music. Czech National Radio station Vltava has broadcasted both his classical/contemporary and jazz music.

Pavel is a 2000 IAJE Gil Evans Fellowship recipient and has performed with jazz greats Bobby Watson, Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman. Louis Hayes, Bob Berg, Victor Lewis, Tim Hagans, Ed Soph, and Dave Pietro among others.
